Day 80: You Are Supported

I have heard the argument that people don’t really need to gather together to worship God so the Body of Christ isn’t that important. It’s used as an excuse to not go to church on Sunday’s. Or even as an excuse to ONLY go to church on Sunday’s. Sadly, people believe this excuse and it’s just straight up a lie.

I am not discussing this because during COVID-19 I think people should be careless or that they should disregard any medical concerns they have during these irregular times. However, I do think that there’s a danger that we might see the blessing of rest and a break from the “usual” life routine as perfectly fine. The church was meant to gather together more than once a week. The point isn’t just to tap in at the beginning of our week and then go on and live our lives.

Throughout the past few months, the biggest thing I’ve been learning is this: I depend on so many people for so many things. Upset? Talk to a friend. Excited? Talk to a friend. Confused? Talk to a friend. (Any of which can also be discussed with family.) However, we were meant to come to God first. He isn’t our last resort solution! But sometimes I treat Him as if He is less important that everyone else in my life.

In Exodus 17:10-13, it’s important to note that the victory was the Lord’s. Moses was relying on God to fight and win the battle. His posture of worship affected the physical fight down in the valley. But Moses was unable to do it on his own. He had others to support him as well.

This is a beautiful picture of how we as people sometimes depend on others to show faith and hold on for us while we don’t have the strength and energy. It wasn’t the support per se, but the support in the name of the Lord. They trusted God and stood together, just as we ought to today. You are supported.
