As many of you know, the project that I have been working on not just on my website but also in my personal life, is the concept of “More Than Physical Healing.” While having so many different frustrations regarding my autoimmune disease, I have been seeking true peace through emotional, social, and spiritual healing. We each do what we can, don’t we?
A well-known passage in the Old Testament says “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:4-5, NIV). The healing that is talked about isn’t the physical rescue that the Israelites were expecting, it was something so much bigger.
The healing that Jesus performed while on the earth was physical. But when He healed them, Jesus often said, “Your faith has made you well.” In those instances, Jesus is talking about the idea that the people standing in front of Him have encountered Christ in a new way. They experienced spiritual healing.
A song that has really spoken to me for years now is called “The Hurt and the Healer” by MercyMe. God is the Great Physician. He has the power to heal you physically, but He also has the power to heal you spiritually. You are healed.
