Day 45: You Are Gifted

“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines” (1 Corinthians 12:7-11, NIV).

I have often wondered why doesn’t the Lord give everyone their gifts at the same time? Why can’t we just have all of the gifts? Although this seemed like a good idea to me when I was younger, I am learning to realize that more and more the gifts aren’t for us. It’s for God and for His glory so the rest of the world can see Him more clearly.

The Lord knows how we will use the gifts that He gives us. You can use your gifts well or you can use them unwisely. We know that God wants us to use it for His Kingdom. If we were to each have the exact same gifts and all had them at the same time, we wouldn’t need God, we wouldn’t need each other.

We, as the body of Christ, need each other in order to fulfill our mission that Christ has given us. Our mission is the Great Commission, some of the last recorded words of Jesus. Being gifted means that we are entrusted to carry out that which we are called to. We need to be willing to use the gifts God has given to us so that we might be able to love each other and serve each other better. You are gifted.
