Day 79: You Are Needy

I have been thinking a lot about the different things that are going on in the world. I have been looking at my own heart, looking for anger, fears, prejudice even. I have realized more and more that I tend to just avoid all of it. I hide from my own emotions because I don’t want to be angered by the injustice in this world. I don’t want to be afraid of what the world is coming to. I don’t want to see someone as either less or more. I think a fear what might really be inside.

I took a deep breath and took time to look at things calmly: deaths in the news, the state of COVID-19, determine on where I stood on controversial topics. What I found was a sense of apathy mixed with genuine anger. What do I mean by this? I mean that I first saw things as “That’s just the way they are.” But then I asked myself why. And the answer is this: The world is in DESPERATE need of Christ. It’s that “simple” and yet, what are we as the hands of feet of Jesus doing about the sin we see everywhere we go?

So many opinions out there. I am really trying to recognize that the social media I see is mostly people in my generation. I try to remember that the media doesn’t always tell the whole story the way it should. I need to stop looking around to see what others think and how they react – I need to look to God first. In the end, isn’t it just between Jesus and me?

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2, NIV).

We should be patient as God is patient, angry for what makes Him angry, but always acting according to the Spirit. Because we have Jesus, we don’t need to be afraid of this world. We don’t need to fear what it can do to us, what will happen if we stand up for what is right. When we see the depths to which this world is lost, we need to look to God.
