Day 67: You Are Fortified

Sometimes, random words will pop into my mind early in the morning and then, for some odd reason, they just set up camp and stay there all day. The word “fortified” came to my mind. And it’s not like I don’t know the word… but I still looked up the definition. According to Google the word means: “provided with defensive works as protection against attack” (among other definitions, but this is the one I was thinking of).

I can’t help but think of the story of Jericho in Joshua 6. The first verse in this chapter says that the city was “securely barred because of the Israelites” (NIV) so as to keep them from invading them. At this point, all of Israelites’ enemies were terrified of the Israelites and their God (Joshua 2:1-11). They did their very best to protect themselves against the destruction that was sure to come. But they stood no chance against the Lord, who called His people only to march and blow trumpets.

Not only is able to tear down carefully constructed walls, but He acts our defense as well. We know that the spiritual realm never stops fighting, God never stops fighting for us. When we are under Spiritual attack, God is our shield and foundation. Our roots are deep underground, deeply embedded and on sure ground. He protects us from the arrows of the Evil One.

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday” (Psalm 91:4-6, NIV).

You are fortified.
