Day 86: You Are Addressed

I think often about how in the Old Testament, God would show up to people and they wouldn’t even know who He was. Often times, it was in a voice, but other times, He showed up so that He could physically be seen. He made Himself personal to the people He was talking to. Many times, God would also call them by name, addressing them so they knew that He knew who they were. 

In Genesis 18:9, the Lord asked Abraham, “Where is your wife Sarah?” (NIV). In 1 Samuel Chapter 3, God calls Samuel by name three different times so that he thinks it is Eli who is calling to him. These stories are two instances where God addressed humans because He already knew them.

I think about where I am at in life and how whatever I am doing is probably insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I forget that there is even a world outside of the one I know. And if God knows everything, then why would He take the time to know what I am thinking or doing? And yet, He does.

Thinking about these examples (any many others as well) help me to realize that God is intimately aware of who I am. He knows more than I can imagine and yet He has taken time to save me and to redeem me. God knows your name and He addresses you when He speaks to your heart. It may not be in an audible voice, but He still talks to you. What is He calling you to specifically today? How do you hear Him addressing you?
