We have arrived at the last night of my mini series on 1 Peter 2:9. This verse is so full of what our identity in Christ looks like. The last part of this verse talks about how we are called “out of darkness into his wonderful light” (NIV).
When I think about darkness, I first think of the beginning of the creation story where God “separated the light from the dark” (Genesis 1:4, NIV). Light was the VERY FIRST THING God ever created, and I find that such a vivid image that he separated the two because the two did not belong together. If we have the light of Christ within us, there is no room for the dark.
God does not desire for us to hide anything in the dark; He wants us to live freely for Him and with Him. One song that is a beautiful reminder of this is called “Into the Light” by Matthew West. It’s a good image of what it is like to walk out of darkness. You are called.
