Day 54: You Are Good

I really struggled with the title of this devotional because I don’t want to suggest the idea that in any way we are inherently good. I believe in something theologians call original sin, meaning that when babies are born, they are born into sin. No one needs to teach a child to be selfish or how to throw a tantrum… I don’t want to create conflict, but that’s just what I believe.

Looking through different versions of Galatians 5:22, I found the Message version, which explains the word goodness as “conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people.” This points back to Genesis 1:27 that states that we are made in the image of God. I like this translation because it focuses the perspective back on our Creator instead of us.

Some other translations use the word “benevolence” instead of good. The Chinese translation for the idea “good” indicates well-intentioned and honest. The Hebrew word meant a to be upright in heart.

In this passage “goodness” is a fruit of the Spirit. Benevolence, honesty, holiness. These are the truths God has bestowed upon us as those who follow Him. When we live like Christ calls us to live, this type of Heavenly attitude we radiate truth and goodness.

2 throughts on "Day 54: You Are Good"

  1. I enjoy you because of all your efforts on this site. Ellie enjoys doing internet research and it’s easy to see why. All of us hear all concerning the compelling means you deliver good information by means of the blog and as well cause contribution from other people about this concept plus my daughter is actually being taught a lot. Enjoy the remaining portion of the new year. You’re the one carrying out a glorious job.

  2. Thanks for the recommendations on credit repair on this amazing site. A few things i would tell people is always to give up the particular mentality they can buy today and shell out later. Like a society we all tend to try this for many issues. This includes getaways, furniture, and also items we wish. However, you should separate the wants out of the needs. While you’re working to raise your credit score make some sacrifices. For example it is possible to shop online to save cash or you can visit second hand retailers instead of pricey department stores regarding clothing.
